Brittenham, Young Conquer Hay Bales and Hills at DDD Invite

Unlike last year, the DDD course was not flooded. But, have no fear, the hay bales were still on the course and the hill was as tall as ever, making this meet all the more exciting. The Southwest Florida teams put their legs to the test, conquered the hill, and some came home with new shiny PR's to show for it.

Boys Race:

Hugh Brittenham brought it home for the Estero boys. Brittenham's 16:04 first place finish was just two seconds slower than Erick Montoya's, Estero class of 2010, 16:02 course-record performance back in 2009.

Brittenham took it out fast and maintained the lead with Nickolas Kamen (16:24) and Brady Gibson (16:37) closely following behind.

Not only was his 16:04 a PR for Brittenham, but at the same meet last year he ran 18:00 minutes to place third, a significant improvement. Kamen nearly captured a PR with a one second difference and Gibson PR'd for the second week in a row with his 16:37 performance.

Kamen, along with teammates: Evan Cardec (17:20), Micah Evans (17:22), and Joshua McHarris (17:33) captured the team win for Gulf Coast HS. Brittenham, Colton Tucker (17:05) and Brandon Palomino (17:38) helped the Estero boys to a runner-up finish.

Girls Race:

Cape Coral senior, Cheyenne Young, dominated the DDD Sommer course leading the field by over a minute and running a time of 18:28.

Young ran a PR of 19:19 last week at the Lemon Bay Invitational. This past track season, Young had a great track season, bettering her 3200m PR to 11:19. Her performance puts her at the number one spot for the meet record and third for the course record.

Young was joined by Jessica Edwards (19:34), Morgan Vickaryous (19:46), and teammate Kelsey Miskimins (19:53).

Morgan Vickaryous led the Naples girls to the overall team finish. Zoe D'Antonio (20:31), Jillian Dempsey (20:37), and Madison McCormick (20:46) joined Vickaryous to bring home the victory for Naples.

Noemi Kerjean (20:11), Almudena Mondelo (20:27), and Keyli Gomez (20:38) led St. Brendan to a runner-up finish.
