American JavFest 2015

East Stroudsburg, PA

Meet Information

The National Scholastic Athletics Foundations Project Javelin is proud to announce its first American JavFest, to be held in East Stroudsburg, Pa., the weekend of Friday-Sunday, July 24-26, 2015.

Project Javelin Head Coach Jeff Gorski has conducted American JavFests before, between 2000-03, and 2015 has turned out to be the perfect year to revive it. On the one hand, the results of the Projects 2014 fall clinic in East Stroudsburg the home of another Project coach, Barry Krammes were particularly inspiring, moving the Foundation to consider it as a permanent home for javelin clinics. On the other hand, the Project was looking to create a new summer event after the Foundations board of directors decided not to fund a Finland trip for the Project in 2015. There is also motivation to create a state-side companion to the legendary Javelin Carnival in Pihtipudas, Finland which some Project Javelin athletes and coaches have been so privileged to experience. So the event is born out of need, inspiration and a strong desire to create a new event to further the mission of Project Javelin.

The scope of the JavFest goes beyond training and competition for high schoolers; its truly intended to share the joys of the discipline with throwers of all ages. There are youth competitions for under-10 and under-15 athletes, high school competitions and open competitions for collegiate and post-collegiate/open/pro athletes, and masters competitions. This will be a totally unique event that allows athletes, coaches and fans of the sport to be fully engaged educationally, socially and competitively. In fact, more than half of the Saturday program will be devoted to a Javelin School, sessions where athletes will be learning from some of the nations (and worlds) best coaches in Project Javelin and beyond. Each evening will include receptions and other events to be determined, plus a Flaming Javelins exhibition Saturday night. Finally, there will be a variety of events and activities for the general public to participate in, including throwing contests using various items, from baseballs to cell phones.

This will be a very special weekend for all things javelin and an exciting step forward for the mission of Project Javelin. We invite one and all to join us in East Stroudsburg the last full weekend of July!
