No. 10 VISTA MURRIETA (SS) vs. No. 23 DANA HILLS (SS)

Two Southern Section boys teams that had already displayed solid early season depth, produced one of the more competitive virtual dual track meet outcomes in the first round of this tournament. But in the end, Vista Murrieta came out on top in four of the six categories and split the relays to advance past No. 23 Dana Hills.

In its 14-point victory, the Broncos had seven individual event champions including two double-event winners in seniors Michael Holland (800m/1600m) and Edward Ta'amilo (DT/SP). Additionally, senior Hunter Escorcia had the top time in the 110m hurdles and the No. 2 clocking in the 300m hurdles, junior Noah Murasmith was second in the 1600m and 3200m and earned a third-place point in the 800m.

Ta'amilo's 172-2 from the Saddle Up Invitational on Feb. 29 ranks CA No. 3 and Escorcia's 14.60 (0.7) from that same meet ranks CA No. 4 for all-conditions times.

Dana Hills senior Chase Walter didn't make it easy on the Broncos earning five-point victories in the 100m, 200m and 400m dashes. Walter's 48.98 for 400m from the South County Classic on March 8, is the top one-lapper in CA for marks achieved before the 2020 outdoor season was stopped. His 22.53 (0.7) for 200m from a March 11 dual, ranks CA No. 10 for all-conditions times.

Also for the Dolphins, junior Gianni Viola had the top time in the 3200m, senior Carrick Denker was No. 2 in the 800m, junior Reid Lockliear had the fastest time in the 300m hurdles and senior Mason Mckhann added runner-up points in both throws.
