Poll: McFarland USA is your favorite running movie

It's no surprise here that the movie depiction of how coach Jim White came to a high school in a little farming town in California's Central Valley and turned it into a cross country juggernaut is the choice of MileSplitCA readers as their "Best Movie About Running."

Nearly 50 percent of all respondents to this week's poll selected McFarland USA as the best movie about running. Prefontaine and Chariots of Fire tied for the second favorite, both at 10.55 percent of the vote.

In this poll, we allowed for respondents to select up to two favorites as well as write in a movie that was not among our 10 choices. The film with more than one write-in selection was The Jericho Mile, which actually received as many or more votes than two of the options on our poll.

Thanks to everyone who participated. We'll be back early next week with another poll question. Until then, please stay safe.

Here's how the voting went by percentage for the top seven from this week's poll:

If you've ever ventured just off the California Highway 99 in McFarland, you undoubtedly got a look at the water tank displaying the high school's CIF-State Cross Country championships. If you make this stop on the Friday between Thanksgiving and State Championship Saturday, it's not uncommon to see a stream of cars, buses and vans stopping for selfies. (Credit: Jeffrey Parenti)
