The last two years at the Garmin RunningLane Cross Country Championships have featured two historic performances at John Hunt Park in Huntsville, Alabama.
The first came in 2020 when a high school girl went under the 16-minute threshold for 5K for the first time in cross country history.
The second followed in 2021 when the fastest performance by a high school boy was achieved, not to mention the fastest-ever performance by a high school team in cross country history.
Undoubtedly, this race is made for history. Coupled with a course made for PRs and a race that, in its short run, has produced some of the finest moments in high school history, we're headed for another big show in 2022.
With a little more than two weeks before the big race, the Garmin RunningLane Cross Country Championships are just heating up.
Garmin is the title sponsor, while New Balance has paired with meet management to provide athletes with custom gear and singlets -- keep in mind, though, there are deadlines for ordering.
