Nevada's classes of 2028 and 2029 delivered a major postseason surge during the NIAA State Championship window (May 11th-17th), producing breakthrough performances across all classifications from 1A through 5A.
The weekend was especially strong in the distance ranks and throws, while the sprint and hurdle groups produced several sub-50/low-40 level breakthroughs that signal long-term state impact potential.
Sprints & Hurdles
On the boys side, Brayley Manning (Bishop Gorman) led the Class of 2029 with a sharp 11.17 in the 100 meters, later returning to run 22.15 in the 200 meters, establishing himself as one of the top young sprinters in Nevada's largest class.
Nehemiah Dunlap-Myvett (Centennial) followed closely with a 22.16 in the 200 meters, while Jermari Arnold (Liberty) posted consistent marks of 11.32 in the 100 and 51.23 in the 400 meters.
One of the most significant breakthroughs came from sophomore Max Vadnais (South Tahoe), who dropped from 50.45 to 49.84 in the 400 meters and followed it with a 1:54.80 performance in the 800 meters, establishing himself as one of Nevada's most dangerous multi-event middle-distance underclassmen.
In the girls sprint group, Bre'lynn Johnson (Bishop Gorman) dominated the 5A field with a 12.15 in the 100 meters and 24.50 in the 200 meters, solidifying her as one of the premier underclass sprinters in the state.
Sophomore Samantha Lientz (Coral Academy - Reno) continued her progression with a 13.21 in the 100 and a 25.93 in the 200, while also contributing to the state's deep 2A sprint field.
Shelby Erikson (Incline) delivered one of the week's biggest improvements, dropping her 400-meter time from 1:00.57 to 57.86 to win the 2A title and immediately establish herself among Nevada's top Class of 2028 400m runners.
Hurdle events produced several breakout underclass performances as well. On the boys side, Darius Chapman (Spanish Springs) led the way with a 15.54 in the 110 hurdles and a dominant 39.75 in the 300 hurdles, winning the 5A state title in the latter.
Sophomore Ashton Hickman (Moapa Valley) also impressed with a 39.78 in the 300 hurdles, while Jace Braud (Arbor View) and Marcus Henderson (Legacy) both broke 16.20 in the 110 hurdles.
On the girls side, Anna Winward (Moapa Valley) led the 300 hurdles in 46.61 and added a 16.11 in the 100 hurdles, while Fallon Swart (Faith Lutheran) posted a strong 15.74 to lead the 100 hurdle field. Freshman and sophomore depth was also evident with Adalyn Hendrix (Lund) and Ava Bobis (Coral Academy - Reno) both showing steady progression across hurdle events.
Distance
On the boys side, Shane Ramirez (Somerset Academy Sky Pointe) led the 800 meters with a 1:53.71, setting the tone for one of the fastest underclass groups in the state. He was followed by Max Vadnais (South Tahoe) in sub 1:55, while Parker Guisti (Wooster) also dipped under 1:59.
In the 1600 meters, Sawyer Hutton (Somerset Academy Sky Pointe) led the group at 4:28.33, while Brad Pike (Lincoln County) and Kade Wolfe (Incline) provided strong freshmen depth.
The biggest breakthrough of the week came in the 3200 meters, where Wolfe dropped nearly 20 seconds, improving from 10:31.28 to 10:12.05. Kingston Lueck (Centennial) also produced a major jump to 9:20.05, one of the top overall marks in Nevada regardless of class.
On the girls side, Gioia Coudriet (Galena) delivered one of the most dominant distance sweeps in the state, winning the 800 (2:14.03), 1600 (4:56.99), and 3200 (10:56.62) to firmly establish herself as Nevada's top underclass distance performer of the week.
Behind her, Stella Lin (Coronado) ran 2:15.79 in the 800, while freshman Lucia Avril (North Tahoe) impressed with 5:10.90 in the 1600 and 11:14.09 in the 3200.
The breakthrough category was especially deep in the girls distance group, highlighted by massive improvements from Isla Morrison (Coral Academy - Reno), who dropped over 30 seconds in the 3200 meters to 11:52.19, and Lily Meinnert (Incline), who improved across both the 800 and 1600 meters while emerging as one of Nevada's top freshmen distance prospects.
Field Events
In the boys throws, Jordyn Montgomery (Damonte Ranch) led the discus with a 163-4 and added a 48-5 shot put, showing elite multi-event strength. David Ross (Shadow Ridge) also stood out with a 54-1.5 shot put, while Brodyn Brown (Bishop Gorman) surpassed 51 feet.
On the girls side, Nneka Ebonka (Arbor View) delivered one of the top combined throwing performances in Nevada with a 40-3 shot put and 126-6 discus. Success Osawe (Damonte Ranch) added a strong 118-0 discus mark, while Maliah Tanuvasa (Liberty) continued her rise across both throwing events.
In the jumps, boys standout Azavier McDaniel (Bishop Gorman) broke through with a 23-3 long jump, one of the top underclassmen marks in the state. Quentin Isom (Mineral County) added a solid performance across jumps, highlighted by a 22-3 long jump, 44-4 triple jump, and 6-3 high jump.
On the girls side, Emoni Young (Shadow Ridge) was one of the most versatile athletes in Nevada, jumping 18-3 in the long jump, clearing 5-0 in the high jump, and contributing across multiple events. Ellianna Costilla (Spanish Springs) also had a major week with a 17-4 long jump and 36-0 triple jump, establishing herself as one of the top all-around jumpers in the Class of 2029.
In the pole vault, Brinley Chavez (Lincoln County) led the boys underclassmen at 7-0, while Elizabeth Ramirez (Damonte Ranch) topped the girls with an 11-6 clearance to lead the state underclass rankings.
