Severna Park vs. River Hill Scrimmage Results: Girls - Boys
The River Hill girls and Severna Park boys came out on top against their counterparts in a scrimmage between two of the top tier combined programs in the state of Maryland on Saturday morning at River Hill High School.

The defending 3A state girls cross country team champions from River Hill had a few questions going into the season after graduating three runners from their top seven one year ago including their top two finishers from the state meet in Allison Krein and Elizabeth Oldhouser. Both top 10 finishers at Hereford last November.
However, rising sophomore teammate Jasmine Tiamfook was only a place behind them in last year's state race and showed herself as the team's new front runner in Saturday's scrimmage against Severna Park winning the two team race individually by 25 seconds in a time of 20:56.
Next to cross the line would be another star sophomore in Severna Park's Catie Combon at 21:21 for second place, but four of the next six finishers would Lady Hawks from River Hill in Eileen Ying (3rd, 21:35), Colleen Krein (4th, 21:46), Tiffany Wang (7th, 21:49), and Jennifer Hornor (8th, 21:53). Not a bad start all for the defending 3A state champs to have all 5 girls under 22 minutes in an August scrimmage and keeping their top 5 spread under one meet.
In the process, the River Hill girls defeated the preseason #8 ranked team in the state in Severna Park 23 to 33, who have high hopes and goals later this fall to be one of the top finishers at the state meet in 4A. Severna Park had 8 girls among the top 14 finishers, but needed more help for Combon up front to stay close with the River Hill girls. Now after these early results, expect to see River Hill girls firmly placed in the top 10 rankings in our next update.

Boys Recap
Two of the top five ranked preseason squads in the state met in a preseason clash with the #2 ranked Severna Park boys and #5 ranked River Hill boys. Both squads were state champions one year ago with Severna Park winning their third straight in 4A, while River Hill took home the 3A title.
Severna Park had to deal with a second straight year of significant graduation losses, but once again Coach Alcombright has reloaded again bringing up his JV runners and developing them over the track seasons.
Severna Park won the scrimmage in a dominant fashion 18 to 45 over River Hill. A big gap between the #2 and #5 ranked teams in the state, but less of a knock on River Hill and rather an indication of how strong of a team that the 2015 Severna Park squad is seeking their fourth straight state title and possibly flirt with a third straight NXN appearance.
Only River Hill's #1 returnee in Trent Rose was able to break up Severna Park's top seven taking third place in a time of 16:41 on his home course. A new 5K PR for Rose, who had dipped just under 17 minutes once last fall, but ran 9:46 for 3200 meters at the end of the outdoor season.
Leading the dominant show put on by Severna Park boys were seniors Andrew Forsyth and Joshua Tucker starting off with fast season opening times of 16:07 for race winner Forsyth and 16:19 for Tucker in second place.
The remaining varsity runners for Severna Park came in a swarm pack over 13 seconds with Kasey Gelfand (4th, 17:17), Hugh O'Connor (5th, 17:21), Matt Cambon (6th, 17:21), Spencer Davis (7th, 17:26), and Raymond O'Donnell (8th, 17:30) to average 16:51 as a squad.
River Hill had their next three runners come across the line with a trio of juniors in Andrew Meininger (9th, 17:34), Rahul Reddy (10th, 17:39), and Jacob Parker (11th, 17:43), but with a fifth runner just over 18 minutes will have the next three months to work on that spread to make them more competitive if they race again against the top 4A schools in the state.
