CA's Top Throwers Headline Mt. SAC Saturday Lineup


Girls Invitational 4x100 Relay (12:45 pm)
Buchanan, out of Fresno is the fourth fastest team in California with a 47.22, run last weekend.  Right on their heels, the much improved Leuzinger squad is eighth in the state with a 47.63.  Lining up next to each other, Redondo Union (47.72) and Murrieta Mesa (47.82) are, respectively, sixth and seventh in the Southern Section.  Upland (48.01), Roosevelt (48.12) and Etiwanda (48.34) will look to cross under 48 seconds for the first time this season.


Boys Invitational 4x100 Relay (1:00 pm)
A great matchup of some of the Southern Section's best ensues.  Harvard Westlake is fifth in California with their 41.53 performance at Arcadia two weeks ago.  Meanwhile, Upland is seventh with their 41.72.  Last weekend, ninth-ranked and defending State Champions, Great Oak crossed with the victory in 42.05.  In 2019, Madison is one of San Diego Section's best with a 42.23 clocking.  Led by California's best in Christian Grubb, Notre Dame of Sherman Oaks owns a 42.35 seasonal best.   ML King improved down to a 42.56 last weekend while league rival, Roosevelt owns a seasonal best of 42.63.  Valley Christian of San Jose looks to improve upon their 42.60 best from 2019.  


Boys Invitational 800 Meters (2:05 pm)
Four of California's best will lace it up.  Emerging out of the pack at Arcadia with 50 meters to go, Valencia's Kai Wingo crossed with the victory at 1:52.45.  He is second in California and fifth in the United States. (Wingo is pictured above in Frank Bellino photo)  One of the most improved in the Southern Section, Corona's Israel Echeverria continues to shine with a 1:54.04 best.  Patiently moving into the season, Thousand Oaks' Mitchell Burr is preparing for another run at the California State Meet.  His seasonal best is 1:55.46 while he looks to improve upon his 1:54.11 best from 2018.   In comes Noah Hubbard, the current California State leader in the Mile.  The Footlocker National Finalist in Cross Country has carried that drive over to the oval.  His 1:55.89 from 2018 should be supplanted by a new personal best for Hubbard by the end of this race.    Joseph Domingues of St. Joseph out of Santa Maria looks to improve upon his 1:55.52 best from 2018.  Pleasant Grove's Andrew Jackson produced a 1:56.00 effort at Stanford three weeks ago.  Meanwhile, South Hills' Dillon Hightower gets onto the track with a 1:56.19 seasonal best while Ayala's Andrew Martinez rolled to a 1:55.54 best from the 2018 Mt. SAC Relays. 

Girls Invitational 800 meters (2:10 pm)
Making the trip from New Jersey, Governor Livingston's Victoria Vanriele steps onto the track with a seasonal best 2:07.24 at the New Balance Indoor Nationals, where she placed fifth.   She was third at the 2018 NB Outdoor Championships with a best of 2:05.99.  Eighth place at the 2018 California State Meet with a 2:12.92, Julia Morales of Scripps Ranch revs up for another great postseason run.  La Costa Canyon's Jessica Riedman owns a best of 2:13.52 as she was a State Meet Finalist in the 1600 last year.  This will be one last effort at the 800 meters for Ayala's Mikaela Ramirez as she will forgo it for the upcoming postseason.  Ramirez looks to improve on her personal best of 2:11.89.  Oaks' Christian Janiah Brown is a two-time Southern Section Masters Meet qualifier and brings her 2:14.02 into the mix.  One of Arizona's best the last several years, Samantha Schadler's best of Rio Rico is 2:14.74.  Melanie Mach (2:15.48) of Rosemead, Roosevelt's Alexis Ford (2:13.91 best from 2018) and South Pasadena's Gianna Beasley (2:14.44 best from 2018) will look to ride the pacing of Vanriele up front. 

 
Girls Invitational 100 meters (2:30 pm)
Serra's Jazmyne Frost was the California State Meet runner-up in the 100 meters in 2018 and is currently ranked second in 2019.  With a seasonal best of 11.60, she will be pushed by some of California's finest.  Madison sophomore Aysha Shaheed crossed with an 11.87, behind Frost at the Mt. Carmel Invite last month.  Shaheed is currently fifth in California.  Also in the same affair, Coronado's Alysah Hickey (12.06) and Scripps Ranch's Jaymie Ruskovich (12.10) earned their seasonal bests riding the fumes of front-running Frost.  The University of Oregon bound Hickey owns a lifetime wind-legal best of 11.87.  Buchanan's Shelby Daniele crossed in 12.01 several weeks ago while one of the most improved sprinters in the Southern Section, Valencia's (Placentia) Chrystal Aluya impressed with a 12.07 that same weekend.  


Boys Invitational 100 Meters (2:43 pm)
Madison's Kenan Christon was sixth at the 2018 California State Meet.  He looks to improve upon his 10.52 lifetime best and ignited to a wind-aided 10.45 finish at the Mt. Carmel Invite last month.  For wind-legal marks, he is currently third in California.  Coming south from Sacramento, Fremont's Alonzo Floriolli comes in with a wind-legal best of 10.72 at the Stanford Invite.  A 2018 SS-Div. 3 Finalist and now representing Serra (Gardena), Mekhi Mayes is coming off a 10.72 from two weeks ago.  Both are tied at tenth in California for wind-legal efforts.  Advancing onto the SS-Div. 3 Finals along with Mayes, Harvard Westlake's Josh Johnson looks to improve upon his 10.81 best from last year.   Rounding out the top seeds, Cervontes White from Liberty from Henderson, Nevada comes in off a wind-aided 10.73 from three weeks ago.
