Season Preview: 1A Girls

As the 2023 season this week, March 2nd, we want to look at what may be ahead for the season in Class 1A Girls. Last spring saw the Eureka Girls win the state title.

On the girls side Eureka was able to hold off Wells by 7 points to win a close battle for the title.  The final scores were; Eureka - 93, Wells - 86, Sierra Lutheran - 76, Virginia City - 53, Tonopah - 49. Eureka, the state champions, returns 800m State Champion and 400m State Runner-up, Megan Johnson , State Finalist Aleigh Hooper (300m hurdles, Shotput, Discus) and Lylah Hooper (Shotput and Discus).

Wells returns 4 individual state finalist; Carolina Johnson (3200m), Morgan Noorda (100m hurdles), Kira Boner (Triple Jump), Jorie Wright (Pole Vault), this year to battle for the state title. State third placer Sierra Lutheran returns 4 individual finalists as well. A major return for Sierra Lutheran is triple podium finisher Saige Gregory. Saige finished runner-up in the 1600m and 3200m and clinched the third place spot in the 800m. She will be joined by Kayla Carpenter (100m, 200m, 400m), Riley Mchenry (400m, 300m hurdles), and Kailey Fitzpatrick (800m).

Sage Ridge returns double state champion (1600m, 3200m) as a freshman, Chloe Huyler. Chloe also set the state meet record for Class 1A in the 3200m on her way to her title. She broke the previous record 11:24.26 set 16 years ago (2006) by nearly 8 seconds running 11:16.45! Sage Ridge also returns state finalist Libby Mulvaney who contested the 200m and High Jump for them last season.
