Hayden Dixon goes long again in SP for title and MR

A month after his New Balance Nationals Indoor title, Schuyler County senior and Mizzou signee Hayden Dixon continued his great final year of high school. Dixon won the indoor crown with a toss of 19.57m/64-02.50'' with the indoor implement.

In his second and third meets of the outdoor season, Dixon improved on his PR from the indoor season. Just two days before the Bill Summa Invitational, Dixon launched the shot 19.79m/64-11.25'' at the Scotland County High School Relays. The mark moved him to 3rd on the national performance list on the season.

Dixon made the trip from Queen City in Northeast Missouri to compete at the Summa Invitational. In Independence, Dixon threw a sixth and final round 19.07m/62-06.75'' to win the shot. The mark bettered the field by more than 5 feet. Class 1's Tucker Singer of Tina-Avalon was 2nd with a 57-4.75'' toss. Singer sits comfortably atop the Class 1 performance list by more than 10 feet.

Dixon's day was shorter than he wanted. In this discus, he couldn't record a fair toss in his three attempts and missed the finals and three more throws.

Staley senior and Pittsburg State commit Brennan Boord had a busy couple of days. He and teammate Katy Taylor (Staley made the trip to his future home Friday to compete at the Jock's Nitch/PSU Gorilla Relays, then returned home to Kansas City and competed at Chrisman on Saturday.

Boord's Pitt State trip was highlighted by a 3rd-place discus finish with a best toss of 159-05/48.59m. Saturday, Boord launched the disc 53.38m/175-01 on his second attempt to move to the lead, He improved on that with his sixth and final toss of 54.07m/177-04'' to secure the win and a meet record. Boord edged Liberty North's Javon Smith for the win as Smith finished with a best of 53.14m/174-04''.

Liberty North's Matthew Morrison moved to the Show-Me State last year from California. He was a surprise star for North and the Eagles, winning a state title and earning a spot in the top-10 nationally before finishing 13th on the season's national performance list

This year he has competition for meet titles from his teammate Calen Presser. On the gorgeous, year-old javelin runway at William Chrisman High, Presser bested his training partner and a good field to win and earn a meet record. Presser, a Pittsburg State commit, threw a PR of 57.50m/188-07 to edge Morrison, 56.19m/184-04''. The pair sat #1 and #2 in the state after the meet.

Liberty North senior Calen Presser tosses the javelin on the way to victory, edging teammate Mathew Morrison as the state's top two went 1-2.
