First Look: Nevada Future Stars Outdoor Season Opening Week

Nevada's outdoor track season is already showcasing strong performances from the Classes of 2028 and 2029. During the first week of competition, several underclass athletes posted standout marks across the sprints, distance races, hurdles, and field events, setting early benchmarks for the season.

Sprint Standouts

Freshman Brayley Manning (Bishop Gorman) led the early sprint performances with a strong showing across three events. Manning ran 10.79 in the 100 meters and 22.54 in the 200 meters at the Dave Butler Memorial Las Vegas Open, while also posting a 50.66 in the 400 meters earlier in the week.

Fellow freshman Sherrod Leslie (Canyon Springs) also demonstrated range across the sprint events, running 11.06 in the 100m, 22.63 in the 200m, and 51.86 in the 400m.

Among sophomores, Jayden Patton (Mojave) produced one of the most impressive multi-event performances of the opening week. Patton ran 10.53 in the 100m and 21.34 in the 200m while also winning the 110-meter hurdles in 15.55 and the 300-meter hurdles in 39.85.

Other sophomore sprinters making early appearances near the top of the results include Jermari Arnold (Liberty) with a 10.99 100m and 22.65 200m, along with Nehemiah Dunlap-Myvett (Centennial) who ran 10.96 in the 100m.

On the girls side, Bre'lynn Johnson (Bishop Gorman) delivered one of the fastest sprint doubles of the week, running 11.90 in the 100m and 24.83 in the 200m.

Freshman Alayah Ruiz (Legacy) posted the fastest freshman sprint marks with a 12.67 in the 100m and 26.64 in the 200m, while Kaleez Kennard (Eldorado) added strong performances with a 12.80 100m and 26.75 200m.

Distance Runners to Watch

Freshman Manuel Carranza (Palo Verde) produced one of the most impressive distance ranges of the week, running 2:00.49 in the 800 meters, 4:35.53 in the 1600, and 9:45.74 in the 3200.

Other freshman distance standouts include August Chatin (Galena) with a 4:37.53 1600 and Boston Lueck (Centennial) who ran 4:38.10 in the 1600 and 9:53.12 in the 3200.

Among sophomores, Maseco Colombant (Reno) opened his season with a strong 9:32.89 victory in the 3200 meters.

On the girls side, Belle Parrel (Centennial) posted a strong distance double with times of 2:17.50 in the 800 meters and 5:19.82 in the 1600 meters.

Sophomore Gioia Coudriet (Galena) led the 1600 meters with a 5:15.98 performance, while Autumn McQuirter (Liberty) ran 11:22.93 in the 3200 meters.

Field Event and Hurdle Performers

Freshman Justin Robinson (Canyon Springs) showed strong versatility, running 16.44 in the 110-meter hurdles and 41.97 in the 300-meter hurdles while also jumping 20-10 in the long jump and 41-10 in the triple jump.

Sophomore Jacari Baldon (Centennial) ran 16.37 in the 110-meter hurdles and posted a 44-4.75 triple jump to lead the Class of 2028 results in that event.

In the girls hurdles, Fallon Swart (Faith Lutheran) ran 15.77 in the 100-meter hurdles and 47.12 in the 300-meter hurdles.

Freshman Ninna Rasmussen (Galena) led the freshman class in the 300-meter hurdles with a 50.49 performance.

Notable Field Event Marks

In the high jump, Rowlandis Eutsy (Desert Oasis) cleared 6-4 to lead the underclass field.

Among the throwers, Brodyn Brown (Bishop Gorman) threw 47-0 in the shot put, while Jordyn Montgomery (Damonte Ranch) reached 139-5 in the discus.

On the girls side, Nneka Ebonka (Arbor View) led the sophomore throwers with a 37-8 shot put, while freshman Maliah Tanuvasa (Liberty) posted leading freshman marks in both the shot put (33-6) and discus (109-8).

Outlook

Early performances from athletes like Jayden Patton, Brayley Manning, Bre'lynn Johnson, and Manuel Carranza highlight the next wave of talent emerging across the state. As larger invitationals begin and the season progresses, these underclass athletes will be worth watching as they continue to build momentum.
